Ward Finally Sold to QPR

Perth Glory are set to receive a six-figure sum for the sale of 21-year-old Nick Ward to English Championship team Queens Park Rangers.

Ward has already trialled in England with Leicester in recent months, suggesting his desire to make a name for himself in the UK rather than grind out another season in the West with a coachless and directionless team. Ward was disappointed that he wasn't selected as one of the six members of Guus Hiddink's shadow trial squad for the World Cup, a situation that may have influenced his decision to relocate in Europe.

To make up for the loss of Ward, the FFA will hope that Stan Lazaridis opts for Perth rather than Adelaide when Lazaridis decides which of the A-League clubs he prefers to join to end his playing career. If he does join Perth, it mightn't be crazy to throw Lazaridis' name into the hat when it comes time to draw out the name of the club's new coach.

Former Ajax Amsterdam and Barcelona assistant Gerard van der Lem is the latest coach indicating his willingness to take on the role, a much higher profile individual in the context of world football than many of the local coaches who have also put their names forward (Eddie Krncevic, Branko Culina, David Mitchell, Gary Phillips, Jean Paul de Marigny, etc).

Dear David, Nice of you to publish comments/story in regards to Gerard van der Lem. Not sure if you can contact me as I am the person trying to help Gerard (not that he needs help)simply I have made FFA Mr Matt Carroll, aware of Van der Lem's possible interest in Perth Glory and Football West etc if they are interested and can see, the "long term" gain for W.A. football and Australia etc. Van der Lem is definitely interested in Australia's Head Coach position or Technical Manager Director of FFA. Mr Lowy, Mr O'Neill and Mr Boultbee are aware of this. The latest is that Van der Lem may be able to jointly work with the Famous Danny Blind (Ajax) jointly also in regards to position with FFA. You are more than welcome to interview Mr Van der Lem if you wish, I can pass on his mobile number if you like. Kind Regards Costa Triantafyllou 0417 622 677

Bruce, not sure what happened to the news article! The transfer has certainly gone through, however, and according to most others sources it did involve some kind of token fee.

Costa, perhaps someone who happens to come across the information you have thoughtfully provided will take up your kind offer for an interview with Mr van der Lem. Unfortunately, the professional involvement of this website as a vehicle for such causes is negligible. I will continue to watch the Perth Glory coaching situation with the interest of a keen neutral observer.

David, Thanks for replying, to be honest not sure how the media works, as Im not in this industry for "the buck" just have an interest in football and "logic" would say that Perth Glory and Football West would have to seriously have the "VISION" to initially talk to Mr Van der Lem and take it from there. If they, i.e. FfA and Football West can not see this, then we are No Better Off than the Old NSL, opportunities like this for Australia do not happen every day? His calibre can not be disputed and his knowledge and help will only enhance Perth Glory & Football West and the flow to Australian Football will be great. Our coaches, players and clubs can only grasp this opportunity and learn, learn learn. But human nature unfortunately has "the Fear" element in mind, but I assure you Mr Van der Lem is a Gentleman and all will benefit. Anyway, Thanks for replying, and I've decided to take Mr Johan Cruijff's view about reporters and journalists (this is not directed to you my friend). But as a whole............ Thanks again Regards
Costa

PS - Latest is that Van der Lem and the famous Danny Blind are interested Jointly for position of FFA. FfA is aware of this, but if they persist with the French, they are wrong, Hopuliier will wait for a decision from South Africa, as Head Coach and then give an answer to FFA. Why Mr Lowy is adamant about Houllier "beats Me" but its his money and he can do what he wants, the ones that will suffer are our talented Youth players. Sorry for been so "blunt" and only time will telll. Good Luck in your Life. Costa
